Overview

Enhance your students’ understanding of how sport can become an agent of change in communities in Colombia while also experiencing the inner workings of high-performance sports organisations.

During this unique journey, your students will cycle around beautiful neighbourhoods in Medellin, practice taekwondo and capoeira with impactful foundations and enjoy the national sport Tejo.

Students will also delve into the rich and colourful culture of Colombia with a coffee workshop and dance classes before spending a few days in a natural reserve for rafting and zip lining adventures.

Example Itinerary

Day 1: Arrivals (Medellin)

Our dedicated Kagumu team will meet you at the airport and take you by private transport directly to the hotel in Medellin for check in. Enjoy an introduction to the program and a delicious evening meal.

Overnight: stay in a 3-star hotel in Laureles.

Day 2: Discover Medellin & cable car trip (Medellin)

Discover the turbulent history of Medellin and indeed Colombia with a guided walking tour, taking students to the center of the city, to Plaza Botero, to the Memory Museum and of course along the cable car system.

Day 3: Cycling through the rich & colourful culture (Medellin)

Experience a neighbourhood, largely shaped by working- and middle-class communities,  through the lens of community cycling and social transformation. Students hop onto bikes and enjoy a guided ride through cultural landmarks, local flavors, and community spaces across the city.

Day 4: Capoeira & triathlon experience (Medellin)

Through capoeira, a dynamic blend of martial arts, dance, and music, students move their bodies to the rhythm of the community. Afterwards, visit a triathlon club that is dedicated to promoting triathlon and adventure sports for individuals of all ages and skill levels.

Day 5: Elite soccer, fruit tasting, & adaptive taekwondo (Medellin)

Visit the High-Performance Center (CAR) of Atlético Nacional. This world-class facility is one of the most advanced soccer training centers in South America and serves as the main training site for the club’s men’s, women’s, and youth teams. After lunch delve into the intriguing world of Colombia’s exotic fruits before taking part in an adaptive taekwondo class.

Day 6: Adaptive athletics, coffee tasting, & tejo (Medellin)

Students head to the city’s stadium to participate in training sessions with para athletics gain insight into inclusive and adaptive sports initiatives in the city. In the afternoon, students get a real taste of Colombia with a coffee tasting session followed by a game of Tejo – Colombia’s explosive national sport.

Day 7: Free day in Medellin to explore or relax (Medellin)

Students get a free day in Medellin to explore and connect to the city. Alternatively, students can rest and relax ahead of the departures tomorrow.

Day 8: Explore Andean Rainforest (Rio Claro)

Travel alongside beautiful Andean mountains to reach Rio Claro, a natural reserve that will be the base for the group over the next two days. After lunch, head out on an eco-walk discovering ancient traditions of native communities that once lived here.

Day 9: Rafting & zip lining (Rio Claro)

After breakfast, students head down a crystal clear river, alongside marble caves and mountains on a level 1 rafting activity. After downtime and some lunch in Rio Claro, students zip through the forest canopy on a zip lining adventure.

Day 10: Departures

Our guides take students to the airport in plenty of time for their flight back home.
