Example Itinerary

Day 1: Arrivals & city tour (Cusco)

Your dedicated Kagumu tour guides will meet you at the arrivals gate at the airport before taking you to your hotel for check-in.

We’ll enjoy a guided tour of Cusco’s historical center before a typical Andean evening meal and an introduction to your Spanish Peru trip.

Day 2: Temple of the Moon & market challenge (Cusco)

Students get their first look at the fascinating Inca archeological sites surrounding Cusco with a visit to the Temple of the Moon. Afterward, students will leave their comfort zone and interact with locals in the colorful local market.

An evening meal follows in the center and we’ll enjoy our first expert-led reflection session.

Day 3: Cultural immersion, sustainable house making (Pisac)

Students get their first taste of complete cultural immersion, meeting their new families in a traditional Andean Quechua community. After a traditional welcome, our ultra-friendly hosts will teach us about sustainable house building.

Students roll up their sleeves to help out before a home-cooked meal and group reflection.

Day 4: Andean farming, Pachamanca & Ceramics (Pisac)

Today we head into the surrounding Andean fields, helping the community cultivate crops and delicious vegetables. For a unique treat, students will experience Pachamanca – a sacred way of cooking underground!

The full day of activities ends with a ceramics workshop and a bonfire with locals enchanting us with the myths and legends of the Sacred Valley. We’ll then stay overnight in the community with local families.

Day 5: Awe-inspiring train journey (Aguas Calientes)

One of the most magical experiences in Peru is the train journey that winds through the towering Andean mountains to Aguas Calientes.

Here students will explore the vibrant markets, enjoy a traditional dinner, and have an early night before tomorrow’s trip to one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Day 6: Machu Picchu visit (Aguas Calientes)

There’s a reason Machu Picchu is billed as one of the most spectacular and unmissable travel experiences on the planet. Our local guides will bring this ancient Inca city to life on a walking tour.

Afterward, students will take a beautiful hike to Aguas Calientes and a train journey back to Cusco, where we’ll enjoy an evening meal and an overnight stay.

Day 7: Indigenous weaving workshop (Sacred Valley)

Today students will put their new language skills to the test as they interact with women from a Quechua community who will demonstrate traditional weaving techniques.

Students will learn how these women use native plants and even bugs to make bags, dresses, scarves, hats, and other beautiful garments. We’ll enjoy a home-cooked meal with the community before an inspiring reflection session back in Cusco.

Day 8: Departures (Cusco)

Students get to buy gifts and souvenirs for friends and family before we take you to the airport in plenty of time for your flight home.
