Hiking the Colombian Andes: Customer Review

colombia 705 orig

Our first 18-day Colombian trek through the bewitching Andes was a great success! Read our amazing customer review.

Our group of eight travellers from various parts of the UK encountered ecosystems to be found nowhere else in the world, they sipped the finest coffee and indulged in a variety of tropical fruits but most memorable of all is the connection they made with the Colombian culture both modern and ancient.

Judy Scott, a keen trekker and member of the Oread and Derwent Mountaineering Club

from Derbyshire accompanied her partner Pete on the journey. She was kind enough to talk with Kagumu Adventures after her Colombian trip.

How did Kagumu’s team help you organize the trip?

Kagumu was excellent in helping to organize this trip. They sent an original itinerary then there was a backwards and forwards email correspondence, designing it so it suited our own particular needs and wants. They were so patient in helping us create the perfect itinerary over several months.

What I also thought was excellent was that everything was included so we just paid one lot of money and we hardly put our hands into our pockets for the whole 18 days and that for me was excellent.

How did you connect with Colombian culture?

Simon and Mateo were able to spontaneously able to talk to us about the politics, history and social aspects of the indigenous cultures. This way it felt more natural. Not like a guide reading from a script. There was help and knowledge there all the time which enabled us to feel what it was like to live like a Colombian

What did you think of the guides?

The Kagumu guides could not have been better. We could not recommend them more highly, They became friends. They were informative, they were helpful. The communication before we came and while we have been here has been A+. Every local guide shook our hands and called us by our names and we felt that we had made friends with them as well.

I am a celiac so I am always worried before I go abroad because I need a very strict gluten-free diet. Thanks to Mateo and Simon I have not had any problems which is a huge load off of my mind.

What did you think to the Andes trekking experience?

We love mountains and these mountains were superb! The scenery was fantastic, it changed all the time, we had snowy mountains, paramos, the cloud forests were fantastic and best of all it was constantly explained to us. The people are lovely and I would recommend Colombia and especially Kagumu.

Finally, what would you say to anyone who said Colombia was unsafe? Kagumu was excellent in helping to organize this trip. They sent an original itinerary then there was a backwards and forwards email correspondence, designing it so it suited our own particular needs and wants. They were so patient in

From day one we have felt as safe as anywhere we have been in the world. What we may have seen about Colombia and its problems was completely unfounded and we would come back at the drop of a hat.
